We Started with a Simple Question: Where Is the Science?

When Applied Basic Science Corporation (ABSC Organics) was founded, the pet CBD market was growing fast but the science behind it was almost nonexistent. Pet owners were buying CBD products based on marketing claims and word of mouth. Nobody had actually tested these products in a rigorous clinical setting to find out if they worked, what dose was appropriate, or whether they were even safe for animals.

We thought that needed to change. So instead of just selling a product, we sponsored clinical research at Colorado State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, one of the top veterinary programs in the country. We wanted to know, with real data, whether our CBD oil could help dogs with epilepsy and osteoarthritis. And we wanted to make those results public.

What Goes Into Our Product

ABSC Organics Pure CBD Oil is made from a single, specific hemp plant cultivar grown organically in Colorado. We chose this particular plant for its consistent terpene profile and cannabinoid ratios. It is the same plant compound that was used in every one of our clinical trials at CSU.

Our oil is full-spectrum, which means it contains not just CBD but also the naturally occurring terpenes and minor cannabinoids that researchers believe contribute to the “entourage effect.” This is the idea that cannabinoids work better together than in isolation. We do not use CBD isolate.

Every batch is third-party lab tested for potency, purity, and contaminants. THC content is always below the federal legal limit of 0.3%. Our products are USDA Organic and manufactured entirely in Colorado, from growing through bottling.

Who We Work With

Stephanie McGrath, DVM, MS, DACVIM (Neurology) is an Associate Professor at Colorado State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. She is board-certified in veterinary neurology and neurosurgery and has led all three published clinical trials using ABSC Organics CBD oil. Dr. McGrath specializes in seizure disorders, inflammatory brain disease, and spinal cord injury. Her research has been instrumental in building the evidence base for CBD use in veterinary medicine.

Alan Shackelford, MD is one of the country’s leading medical experts on therapeutic hemp-derived compounds. He completed his post-graduate training at the major teaching hospitals of Harvard Medical School, including three fellowships. Dr. Shackelford advises companies, government agencies, and health organizations around the world on the medical applications of cannabinoids.
